WEDNESDAY WORDS

FROM METRO MINISTRIES, INC.

_________________________________________________

to support Metro Ministries, Inc.'s 2021 Grants Programs

January 6, 2021

As we look ahead in this new year, what do we want to see? What do we pray happens in our families, our communities, our state, our nation, our world? What words do we want to read or hear that will give us hope?

These are certainly reasonable questions, especially coming out of this past year, but are they the best questions for us to focus on? Should we wait and see what the answers are before we make plans or take steps forward?

Or, should we instead, focus on what actions we can take, today, to be the hands of feet of Christ? What words can we use and when, to best reflect His compassion, mercy and love?

Within the limitations of our individual lives and abilities, what can we do, regardless of what happens in our families, communities, state, nation and world? "It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, And don’t take yourself too seriously - take God seriously" (Micah 6:8 from Eugene Peterson's The Message).

While it may seem at times there are few things we can control in our daily lives, there are daily opportunities for us to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God. May these be on our 2021 to-do list.
